About the Opportunity

Terris & Company is looking to hire an experienced Controller/Project Accountant to join our team in Vancouver, BC, on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects within our organization. You will manage a small team of admin & accounting staff, and work to improve current accounting standards and workflow to increase efficiency while adhering to accounting best practices. This role involves monitoring corporate budgets, tracking expenses, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. You will work closely with our project managers to provide accurate financial information, support decision-making, and ensure the financial success of projects.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor and maintain all general accounting functions including Payroll, Invoicing, Expenses, Accounts Receivable, Account Payables, GST, PST, WCB, Benefits, Bank & credit card reconciliation, payments, and adjustments, etc.)
  • Prepare month-end reports (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow, AR summary, AP summary)
  • Report and advise the Owner & Partner of all financial matters
  • Review and improve on current Chart of Accounts, current payroll irregularities and improve based on best practices
  • Integrate Quickbooks Online with Co-Construct management software and set up a template for recurring transactions 
  • Review, recommend, and execute on digitizing hardcopy files and moving to a cloud-based accounting process
  • Assess and improve current accounting workflow
  • Conduct financial budgeting and forecasting
  • Project reconciliations near job completion
  • Process bi-weekly progress claims
  • Establish and maintain financial controls within project management processes
  • Develop and implement procedures for project expense approvals, procurement, and financial reporting
  • Track and allocate project costs to appropriate accounts and cost codes
  • Review and reconcile project-related financial transactions
  • Manage project cash flow and monitor project financial performance
  • Monitor and analyze project expenditures, ensuring adherence to budget
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities or financial risks

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will have at least 5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry.  

The following skills and experience will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.
  • QuickBooks Online experience 
  • Co-Construct Project Management software experience is a definite asset
  • Good with implementing new technology and software
  • Experience managing a small team
